How do you feel about cold weather?
It’s a timely question as autumn started here a few weeks ago. As I step out for work, it’s both cold and wet. I hold up an umbrella to stay dry as my woolly sweater keeps me warm.
The cold is transformative. It transforms the outdoors, indoors and your skin. Red nose, frizzy hair, chapped lips and dry skin. I apply lip balm, slather creams, and wear layers until I’m cosy like I am now right now in the evening with my throw and Oodie, a cross between a blanket and hoodie which is a thing in Australia.
I don’t mind the cold as long as I can warm up. I enjoy the dreamlike quality of nature with the crisp air, autumn leaves, fog and snow. Taylor Swift captures that quality in All Too Well. Would the song sound the same without the missing scarf and glistening snow? The cold is dreamlike, sleep-inducing and hard to ignore.
